PhD opportunities
The Centre for Transport Engineering and Modelling (CTEM) at Imperial College has an extensive programme of research, spanning a number of areas of transport studies. The Centre is based within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, which has achieved the distinction of receiving the top rating (5*) in the UK Government's most recent (and all previous) Research Assessment Exercise.
CTEM offers research training leading to a PhD (normally 3 years full time). It is also possible for the PhD degree to be taken on a part-time basis, assessed on a case by case basis. Candidates wishing to undertake a shorter period of research training, but not to register for a higher degree, can also be considered. Scholarships are available for both British and International students.
Please see the postgraduate research pages for more information and how to apply, along with the listings of funded PhD opportunities in the Department.
Applicants for a research degrees (PhD) should have or expect to obtain a first or upper second class honours degree or equivalent, in a relevant quantitative discipline (e.g., Engineering, the Physical Sciences, Environmental Science, Mathematics/Statistics, Computing, Economics). A Master's degree (not necessarily in transport) is also required.
We welcome speculative applications from appropriately qualified people at any time. Candidates wishing to undertake a research degree are advised to contact in the first instance, the Head of the Centre, Professor Dan Graham to discuss their prospective field of research.
Other opportunities
